We are all aware of the great health benefits that we get from propolis and we still use it these days for its medicinal properties.
What ingredients is the propolis made of and what are the benefits of its medical properties
Bees produce Propolis from the sap of the needle-leaved trees. When they combine the sap with their own discharges and beeswax they create a sticky brownish product that they use to build their hives. This only concerns a small number of bees who have this responsible task in the hive.
Propolis harvesting is done in such a way that traps or grids (regular mosquito net) is placed above the fertile frames, and since the bees do not stand a large empty space in order to keep the heat in the hives, they are trying to close those empty spaces. The grids are placed in the freezer for a few hours and once cooled, the propolis becomes brittle and can be removed from the grids. Bees use propolis to close cracks and holes, as well as to “sterilize” the bees in the hive.
Propolis is a unique natural antibiotic against which bacteria can not develop resistance. In the organism, it is antibacterial, antiviral and antigenic.
